EARLY AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS

Relive the everyday life and times of our forefathers with an original 200 year-old newspaper from the early days of America. Every paper is loaded with interesting items and stories of the day. They included local as well as national & international news brought in from the latest sail ships as they enter the harbor. Read the advertisements - including all types of goods and real estate for sale. Most papers are a four- sided single folded paper from major Colonial and Early American cities.

Pennsylvania Packet January 15, 1790
Printer John Dunlap is most famous for his printing of both the Declaration Of Independence and the Constitution. Includes ratification of the Constitution of the United States by North Carolina with a letter of acceptance signed in type by George Washington.
Also, unusual full column given over for requirements for medical students at College of Philadelphia including letter signed in type by Benjamin Franklin - &quotePresident of the Trustees&quote. Fine with evenly toned coloring.

Salem Gazette
June 12, 1792

A page one, three column, article entitled "An Act Concerning the Duties on SPIRITS distilled within the U.S.". The Whiskey Rebellion now has a cause.
Also a speech to the Legislature delivered May 6, 1792 by Massachusetts Governor, John Hancock (signed in type). This speech eloquently states what our forefathers believed and fought for in the establishment of a government with rights for all people. Totally intact and very readable with minor foxing and edge wear.

Edinburgh Evening Courant
January 21, 1775
Contains interesting excerpts from various letters to the newspaper stating the opinions of former British Colonists and British citizens regarding the recent position of the Patriots who are voicing opposition to Britain's taxing of America: "You have no right to tax America. I rejoice that America has resisted-. . ." - Lord Chatham; "My researchers have more and more convinced me, that you have no right to tax America. I will maintain it with my last breath.-Taxation and representation are inseparable."-Lord Camden. Significant when considering the dat of this newspaper. Normal aging and edge wear.

American Mercury
Jan. 6, 1813

Several front page ads "To Men of Patriotism, Courage, and Enterprize" looking for young men to join the service in the 25th regiment of U.S. Troops and receive land for compensation. Also detailed factual account of the military at Black Rock by Peter S. Porter; letters signed in type by Madison and Monroe; Rum advertisements, and more.

Connecticut Gazette
Oct. 25, 1782

Printed by Timo Green with front page story about the Indians taking a Major John Lee and his family prisoner and without hesitation killed and scalped seven of the thirteen captives. It further states that 62 of the town's people have been "butchered by Indians". Also contains an extract of a letter by Thomas Paine. Separating at binding; edge wear and foxing, but very readable.
